ROUTE DESCRIPTION

After a rural road—partly paved—and a few kilometers of trail to reach the Cap Tourmente trail, there is a climb that is steep in two short sections where hikers can use cables for support, followed by a fairly level trail with splendid views.

From the summit of Cap Tourmente, the moderately steep descent leads back toward the river, before passing through the charming village of Saint-Joachim, nestled between the mountains and the water.

OPTION 2:
Route for casual athletes: From Baie-Saint-Paul to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré via Saint-Tite-des-Caps

  • Take the Intercar bus from Baie-Saint-Paul to Saint-Tite-des-Caps.
  • Transportation provided by INTERCAR: 909 Monseigneur-de-Laval Boulevard. Baie-Saint-Paul.     BUS SCHEDULES

 

  • Go to the Sentier de Caps office at 2 Leclerc Street, Saint-Tite-des-Caps, next to the bus terminal and the Auberge du Sportif (lodging). Purchase a one-day pass and a trail access token. You’ll also need to pay the entrance fee for the Cap-Tourmente National Wildlife Reserve.
  • When leaving the Sentier des Caps office, cross QC-138, turn right, and walk along QC-138 until you reach Chemin du Curé. (0.1 km)
  • Turn left onto this path. Where the path splits, take the left fork and use the token to open the gate. (1.4 km)
  • Follow the signs to Parking Lot P-2. Continue to the end of the parking lot, where there is a small lake. On your left, take the wooden walkway that leads to the trailhead. (2 km)
  • Enter the trail, then head toward the La Faille shelter on the right. Before reaching the La Faille shelter, you’ll find an outdoor restroom under a wooden cabin. Continue toward the shelter. (1.5 km)
  • A few steps before the La Faille shelter, on the right, the Cap-Tourmente trail—known as “La Cime”—begins. Follow this trail to the base of Cap-Tourmente. (7.4 km)
  • At the foot of Cap-Tourmente, cross the railroad tracks and a field, then you’ll reach the trail leading to the Cap-Tourmente National Wildlife Refuge Interpretive Center. Restrooms are available there. (1.5 km)
  • Behind the Interpretation Center, a parking lot serves as the starting point for exiting the Wildlife Reserve. (2 km)
  • When you reach the paved Route du Cap-Tourmente, turn right toward Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré. In the village of Saint-Joachim de Montmorency, the road changes its name to Avenue Royale. Continue straight ahead. Pass through Saint-Joachim, then the municipality of Beaupré. Walk along the sidewalk to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré. (12.5 km)

Route 2: For Casual Athletes

Casual athletes will first travel by bus to the Auberge du sportif in Saint-Tite-des-Caps (youth) and will then walk via Cap Tourmente to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré (25 km).

CALL the Auberge du sportif in Saint-Tite-des-Caps (youth hostel) at (418) 901-0505 to secure a reservation for one night ($) the following night. The hostel, the only place to stay in Saint-Tite, is near the bus terminal and next to the Sentier des Caps office.

St. Anne’s Basilica

Visit the Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, its three chapels in the basement (except during services), and take a stroll through its gardens.

The Father in charge of hospitality is pleased to offer guests of the Monastery a guided tour of the Basilica.

Celebrations and Processions

The schedule of services (in several languages) is posted at the entrance to the shrine. During the novena and through the Feast of St. Anne (July 17–26) and the Feast of the Assumption (August 15), torchlight processions are held every evening.

An adoration chapel is available in the basement for quiet reflection.

NATURE AND THE OUTDOORS

A Stroll Along the Waterfront

You can walk to the Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré pier, which is a 15-minute walk (1 km) from the Basilica, and enjoy the view of the St. Lawrence River and the tip of Île d’Orléans.

A Brief History of the Stopover Town

Saint-Tite-des-Caps

Once a mountainous and rugged part of Saint-Joachim, this municipality was founded in 1867 and officially established as a municipality in 1872. In addition to its vacation and agricultural areas, the town is home to the private high school known as Collège Saint-Alphonse and the headquarters of the renowned Sentier des Caps de Charlevoix trail.
